What Are The Solutions, To Better Hearing?
Part 1

There could just be a simple answer…

Hearing  Devices…

…Otherwise known as Hearing Aids, Hearing Instruments and by also the most unpopular term I would say that has ever been used…

Deaf Aids!

Ouch to that!

I really don’t like the term Deaf Aids, as it’s comes across as being so negative and insulting.

Why?

Because for the most part people who need to improve their hearing (with a Hearing Device) are not Deaf but simply; ‘Hard Of Hearing At Certain Frequencies.’

And for the families I meet, they are normally quite aggressive (but not intentionally) towards the family member who has a Hearing Loss, thus they end up calling them Deaf and sometimes ‘A Deaf old Git’, (in jest) or words to that effect.

But it’s not always so funny to be called names, to you who may have a hearing loss, is it?

So, what about you?

If you do have a hearing loss and think that little can be done to improve your hearing you’ll be surprised to learn that over 90% of those affected with hearing loss can
in fact be helped by Hearing Devices.

Whilst your hearing won’t be exactly what it once was… you will be able to re-engage with the world around you and if you worry about how a hearing device will look or feel, please
don’t!

The latest Digital Technology means that for the first time, smaller devices (which can be precisely moulded to your ear, if you so desire) are available and far more discreet.

They enable significant improvements in self-esteem, relationships and social life. And please do remember and take heed of this:

‘A Hearing Loss Is More Noticeable Than Any Hearing Device.’

That’s all for now!

Oh yes… and if you find your hearing is up to scratch (you know… good), it’s best to keep it that way and I know of several good ways to ensure you can and will maintain good hearing and that’s to invest in some hearing protectors.

I know for sure you’d prefer to wear hearing protectors rather than wearing hearing aids (even though hearing aids are by far better and better looking than they ever used to be).

And I also know for sure you’d prefer to continue enjoying life and the ability to hear well too, wouldn’t you?

So do take a look at what these hearing protectors can do for you, as ‘Prevention (of hearing loss) Is (far) Better Than The Cure’.

The Hearing Test – Part 7

How important is your hearing to you?

I meet people every day who more or less tell me their hearing isn’t really that important to them, as they say (and suspect or feel) they can hear all they need to hear…

…but it’s the people around them who say that is definitely not the case…

…as to communicate with those who say their hearing is okay when it’s not, is absolute murder or great frustration for their friends, colleagues and loved ones!

But not to you who may be ‘Hard of Hearing.’

Then again, for those of you in denial (of hearing loss), I’m pretty convinced you do know something about the condition of your hearing. It’s just that it’s often a BIG step to take in admitting you don’t hear as well as you used to.

Would you agree?

Well, if you do agree and if that person happens to be you or somebody you know,  take that first step to find out more about (your) hearing and the:

Degrees of Hearing Loss

At the end of a hearing test you may be told that you have a Mild, Moderate, Severe or Profound hearing loss. You may even find out that your hearing is normal. If you have not been for a test as yet, the following self-diagnosis list can or will help you identify your level of hearing loss, if you suspect you have one, that is.

Mild:

You cannot hear soft sounds and struggle to understand speech in noisy places.

Moderate:

You cannot hear soft and some moderate sounds and have great difficulty in understanding speech, particularly when background noise is present.

Severe:

You have to ask people to raise their voices and group conversations are extremely difficult.

Profound:

You can only hear very loud sounds and communication is impossible without hearing assistance.

In ending here’s a word of advice for you:

It’s recommended that you go for a hearing test even if you think you have only mild hearing loss, particularly if you are over the age of 40.

Treating Hearing Loss

The test is finished and the results are in.

Your treatment could quite literally change your life, so let’s take a look at what that could involve.

The treatment of hearing loss depends on the cause and the nature of the problem.

For example, damaged eardrums may require surgical repair… and blockages and infections may require antibiotics and non-surgical clearing.

People with profound deafness might be recommended to consider a cochlear implant, which is an electronic device that restores partial hearing. It is surgically implanted in the inner ear and activated by a device worn outside the ear.

Cochlear Implant As Worn By A User

Unlike a hearing aid, it does not make sound louder or clearer, instead, the device bypasses damaged parts of the auditory system and directly stimulates the auditory nerve, allowing you who are profoundly hearing impaired to receive sound.

Hearing loss of mild, moderate and severe levels normally results from damage to the hair cells in the inner ear, caused usually by aging or exposure to loud noise and in these cases a hearing aid or instrument is required.

That’s it for now, short and sweet wasn’t it?
